Adding soc.close there works fine under 1.8.4 from the Fedora Core 4
updates (x86_64).  Taking the resultant ssl.rb over to the Windows 1.8.2
One-Click Installer seems to work, too (Windows 2000).

I haven't built Ruby from CVS / subversion before, so I'll have to
look up the details, do a build and get back to you.
