I apologize for a poor support to Unicode. 
If anyone make a new regexp engine better than Oniguruma,
that is great for Ruby.

I don't know the future of Ruby,
My future plan is about Oniguruma 3.X - 4.X.

* Current status

  Level 1:
  1.1 Hex Notation      --> supported
  1.2 Properties        --> not supported

  1.3 Subtraction and Intersection
      --> union and intersection is supported.
          subtraction '-' is not supported.

  1.4 Simple Word Boundaries
      --> supported (but U+200C and U+200D is ignored.)

  1.5 Simple Loose Matches
      --> not supported. (support ASCII range only)

  1.6 Line Boundaries
      --> not supported. (support U+000A only)

  1.7 Code Points  --> supported.

  Level 2:  --> not supported.
  Level 3:  --> not supported.
  Level 4:  --> not supported.


* Future Plan

  1. support shared library by GNU libtool.
     (no relation to Unicode)
  2. support <1.2 Properties> and <1.5 Simple Loose Matches>.
  3. support <2.1 Canonical Equivalents> and
     <2.4 Default Loose Matches>.

 However, I can't promise to you.
