Subject: [ruby-talk:02287] ANNOUNCE: CFV (call for votes) on comp.lang.ruby
To: ruby-talk@netlab.co.jp (ruby-talk ML)

OK future comp.lang.ruby fans, here is your big chance!

The CFV (call for votes) for comp.lang.ruby has been officially posted on
the following newsgroups:

    news.announce.newsgroups
    news.groups
    comp.lang.java.programmer
    comp.lang.misc
    comp.lang.perl.misc
    comp.lang.python

The subject line is "CFV: comp.lang.ruby". The posting date is: 3/30/00.

To vote, first look up the CFV on any of the above newsgroups.

Then _carefully_ read the "HOW TO VOTE" and "IMPORTANT VOTING PROCEDURE
NOTES".

Then _follow_ the voting instructions very _carefully_.

Once you are done voting, please reread "IMPORTANT VOTING PROCEDURE NOTES".

OK, if everyone on the Ruby mail lists do this, then we have a pretty good
chance of getting comp.lang.ruby.

At least 2/3s of the votes must be yes votes, and a minimum of 100 yes votes
are required. Obviously it would be a good idea to get several hundred yes
votes since there is a significant amount of skepticism among news.groups
regulars about whether there is sufficient present interest (and thus likely
traffic) to justify comp.lang.ruby, so there will probably a somewhat larger
than usual number of no votes from them.

Finally, please DO NOT DISTRIBUTE the comp.lang.ruby CFV--which also means
DO NOT POST it. (The people who oversee this process are pretty savvy about
such things. They do not care about excuses for breaking the rules since
scoundrels commonly arrange to have plausible excuses. They were not born
yesterday and some of them will likely check archives and such. There is a
period of time after the CFV closes for people to raise such issues in order
to block newsgroup approvals. Don't supply them with ammunition.)

The voting will close just before midnight UTC on 20 April 2000.

Happy voting,
Conrad

P.S.: Matz, Could you please forward this to the other Ruby mail lists?
Thanks much.
